Death reg of Elizabeth Carrington 1876 in Victoria aged 52 (Vic reg 11795).
"MURDER AND SUICIDE AT EMERALD-HILL. Yesterday afternoon a fearful tragedy occurred at Emerald-hill, involving the murder of a woman named Elizabeth Carrington by her husband William Carrington, who immediately afterwards committed suicide. They were married only about six months ago, both at the age of 52 years. Mrs. Carrington was the widow of Mr. Piper, a photographer, by whom she has a daughter employed as a barmaid in one of the principle hotels in the city. William Carrington was a barber carrying on business at an old wooden shop in Bay-street Sandridge. After their marriage they were never on good terms with each other, and their domestic quarrels resulted in Mrs. Carrington separating from her husband. About two months ago a man named Walter Hugget, an employe at Hosie's Turkish Baths in Bourke-street, and residing in Nimmo-street, Emerald Hill, lost his wife by death, and was left with a newly born infant. He advertised for a housekeeper and nurse, and his advertisement was responded to by Mrs. Carrington, whom he at once engaged in that capacity, and who in consequence had been living there for the past five weeks. She had a room to herself, which she furnished with her own furniture." The article goes on to describe the dreadful occurrence. (ref Trove, The Australasian Melbourne, Sat 2 Dec 1876)
