"CLAIM FOR 1000 FAILS. Alleged Wrongful Detention. Melbourne, Thursday.
Acting on a direction from Mr. Justice Mann, a Jury in the First Civil Court found in favour of defendant in the action in which William Bysouth, manufacturer, of Nicholson-street, Fitzroy, claimed 1000 for alleged wrongful detention from Macpheerson Robertson, confectioner, of Argyle street, Fitzroy.
Plaintiff pleaded that he had been detained by Robertson at the factory of defendant, and later, under instructions from Robertson, had been taken to Fitzroy police station and detained.
The evidence showed that the incident followed the removal from the factory of MacRobertson's, Ltd., of four boxes of butter, Bysouth pleaded that he had removed the butter at the request of Howard Robertson, a brother of defendant. " (ref Trove, 21 Nov 1930)

Gertrude and her daughter emigrated 6 Dec 1912 from London to Sydney, Australia on the vessel RMS Omrah of the Orient Line. There is information in family correspondence about her employment in Sydney and her staying with her uncle Walter South; by 1918 they had returned to Southend-on-Sea, Essex (ref C.Haines).

James was apparently based in Sydney, and from 22 Aug 1914, steward in the Royal Australian Navy, HMASD Opolu.
James died 12 Sep 1918 at sea in WW1 on the S.S. Galway Castle, bound for South Africa, when the ship was torpedoed. He was a Barman in the Mercantile Marine, age 41, and is listed at Tower Hill Memorial, London.
