An occurrence took place in 1859 which is likely to have been in relation to this Joseph (in the absence of any other possibility, and given that he lived in London):
"SINGULAR CASE OF STABBING. Samuel Smith, a bricklayer, aged thirty-four, of High-street, Bow, was charged, at the Thames police-court, with cutting and wounding Joseph Bysouth. Mr Kerressey, inspector of police, K division, said: At half past ten this morning I took the prisoner to No. 1, Manor-house place, Bromley, where I found the wounded man, Bysouth, lying in bed. I said, "Turn round and look at this man." He turned round on his back, and said, "That is the man who stabbed me." I asked Bysouth if he knew his name, to which he replied, "Yes; his name is Smith." I asked Bysouth "What did he do to you last evening." Smith said, "We were both drinking together at the Black Swan, in front of the bar; a quarrel took place between us, and he knocked me down." .... The wounded man had been employed as foreman of the new police station house at Bow, and the prisoner worked under him at the same place. Mr. Selfe: Where is the man wounded? - Inspector Kerressey: I believe on the left side of the face. The doctor who has been in attendance on the wounded man says he believes the nostrils are wounded, and that nothing can save the man.. ... The prisoner was then locked up in default of bail. Late in the afternoon bail was tendered and accepted, and the prisoner was set at liberty. Soon after another certificate was handed to the magistrate, which stated that Bysouth was in immediate danger, and Inspector Kerressey feared there were but faint hopes of his recovery. " (ref Lloyd's Weekly Newspaper, London 30 Oct 1859, in British Newspaper Archives, with a lot more detail) [No immediate possible deaths for a Joseph Bysouth have been found.]
