There is a record of the arrival on 14 Nov 1879 in New Zealand of William Smith age 32, Caroline Smith age 28 and children William 7, Robert 4, Ann 2, Sarah 1 (ref Auckland Library online records). Although the ages are slightly inaccurate, the details seem to fit subsequent events in New Zealand. Sarah's death certificate gives an approximate arrival date of 1881.

In the marriages of Eliza Ann and Sarah Ann in 1903, the newspapers refer to them being daughters of Wm. Smith, Esq, Franklin-road, Ponsonby.
In the 1896 Auckland census there are records of the following at Franklin Road: William Smith, Plumber; Caroline Smith, home duties; William Smith jnr, Plumber.
In the death certificate of daughter Sarah Ann, William is described as a Plumber.

There are many mentions of deaths of Caroline Smith in New Zealand, but the most likely age match is in 1925, aged 76 (i.e. born c1849) (NZ reg 1925/1222). No newspaper references have been found.
