His DC states that he had no issue. Ref The Geelong Advertiser, Wed 8 Jun 1892: "A tragic occurrence. Released from Bail by Death. A tragic end befell the young man George Wright, who in company with another man named Peter Murphy was charged at the Police Court on Monday morning with assaulting Donald M'Donald, a bushman, and robbing him of £10. As the police were not prepared to go on with the case immediately, Wright and his companion, who had been in custody since Saturday, were remanded to appear at the court again this morning. Owing to the earnest solicitations of Mr M'Cormick, it was decided by the Bench to allow Wright out on bail, and the necessary sureties were entered into for his appearance when called upon. As reported in our yesterday's issue, he was attacked with an epileptic fit just after leaving the court with his friends, and falling heavily onto the footpath his head struck the flagstones with such violence that his skull was fractured. He never regained consciousness and died at 2.30am on Tuesday. "A Magisterial Inquiry on behalf of our Sovereign Lady the Queen, taken at Geelong in the Southern Bailiwick of Victoria, this Seventh day of June in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and ninety-two before the undersigned James F. Tully Esquire, one of Her Majesty's Justices of the Peace in and for the said Bailiwick, upon view of the body of George Wright then and there lying dead. Having duly inquired when, how, and by what means the said George Wright came by his death, I say that the said George Wright died at Geelong in the said Bailiwick on the Seventh day of June 1892 from Fracture of the base of the skull, the result of a fall whilst in an epileptic fit. As witness my hand this Seventh day of June 1892. J.F.Tully J.P. " Annie died 15 Jul 1895 at Pardon Place, Geelong (Vic reg 9361). Her death certificate (in the name of Annie) indicates that George Wright was not the father of her children; the informant was her daughter Kate Chinery. She was buried at Eastern Cemetery, Geelong. Listed as Jane age 19 in 1876 (ref her father's Death Cert) Marr (1) 25 Mar 1875 at Geelong Registrar's Office, Geelong Vic (Vic reg 1261) to John FARRELL. John was born c1855 at Richmond Victoria, son of John Farrell, labourer, and Mary Duffy, and his occupation was bootmaker (ref his Death Cert). His address before marriage was off McKillop Street, Geelong. John died 1 April 1878 at Hospital, Geelong, age 23 , and was buried at Geelong by an Episcopalian minister (ref Vic reg 5273 and his Death Cert). The only child listed on his death cert was Samuel. It is not known who the father was for the following 4 children (but probably Abraham Farrell). It was later claimed that May was the daughter of John Farrell. The birth entry for May has no father. The birth entry for David has Abraham Farrell as the father and a false wedding date in 1879 (and the name of May but not Sam). Abraham Farrell was born in 'Litt'/Geelong (Roman Catholic, St Mary's Parish, Geelong) in 1851, son of John Farrell and Bridget Fahey (i.e. brother of John Thomas Farrell who married sister Phoebe). The birth entries for the twins have the mother listed as 'Mary Farrell formerly Chinery, Widow 6 years' and there is the beginning of an entry for the marriage to the father '25th March 1875 Geelong, Samuel 6 years' and the entries are scratched out, the father's name left blank; the informant was Beatrice Chinery, Aunt (with her signature). Sam and May were the only two of the earlier children to survive past infancy. It is not known what happened to Abraham Farrell (if he was involved); there is a marriage of an Abraham Farrell in Geelong in 1879 to a Catherine OLoughlin (Vic reg 1813). Mary was still living in Geelong at the time of her marriage in Melbourne to Theodore Shade and it is not known how they met. Mary marr (2) 4 Apr 1885 in Church of England Moor Street Fitzroy (Vic reg 3390 and marriage cert) to Theodore SHADE, born 1850, West Melbourne, son of John Henry William Shade and Harriet Diment. The marriage cert gives his residence as Spencer Street Melbourne and hers in Geelong; she lists 2 living children and none dead by the 1st marriage which was not strictly accurate. Their signatures are on the marriage cert. Theodore died 26 Mar 1928 at Heidelberg, bur Melbourne General Cem. Mary died 7 Oct 1935 at 584 Swanston Street, Carlton aged 78 years, bur Melb Gen Cem (Vic reg 9042 and her Death Cert). FROM WHOM FRED SHADE IS DESCENDED. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION GO TO SHADE TREE. |
