6.   Charles EAGLES
Birth of Charles Eagles 2 Aug 1778, bap 24 Aug 1778 at Bebington, Cheshire, "son of Mr Thomas Eagles of Tranmore Mariner" (ref fmp Cheshire Chester Parish Baptisms image).

Charles married Jane LOWE in 1798. They had two marriage ceremonies.
Firstly they got a licence on 6th January for a marriage at the Collegiate & Parish Church of Christ in Manchester where he alleged she had been living for some weeks and that both were 21 and upwards, he being a Mariner, bachelor, residence Nicholas, Liverpool, Lancaster, she being a spinster of residence Manchester (ref fmp Cheshire Marriage Licence Bonds and Allegations). The marriage took place on 7th January at Manchester with the comment "Charles Eagles & Jane Lowe married by lic T Brookes Sur:" which I presume means she wasn't able to be there, and there was a surrogate.

Then they married on the 9th March at St Oswald, Chester by Banns on Feb 11th, 18th and 25th, as bachelor and spinster; Charles was of the parish of Chester, Mariner, and Jane was of the same parish, spinster; witnesses were George Lowe Sen. and Edward Lowe (ref fmp image). Perhaps they found the first wedding was not valid.

Baptism of Jane LOW 19 Mar 1775 at Plemonstall, Cheshire (5 miles from Chester), daughter of George Low. The family is well documented in the FamilySearch world tree. Her grandfather William Lowe married Hannah Lightfoot, and among their children was George Lowe who married Mary Bennett. The name varies between Lowe and Low. George and Mary had six known children, including Jane in 1775, the brother Edward (1773) who witnessed the second marriage together with her father, and an elder brother George (1768). A descendant of George Jnr is a DNA match to Fred Shade.

Note the following details at the time of the birth of Mary in 1802 at Wigan, Lancashire:
"Mary first dau of Charles Eagles of Hallgate Tobacconist & Jane his Wife Dau of George & Mary Lowe, born 29th of June, bap 24th of August" (ref Ancestry Wigan CofE Baptisms)

Charles died before 16 Aug 1827; his death is not found, but since he was a Mariner, he may have died at sea (though he was also a tobacconist).

On 15 Aug 1827 at Chester, Cheshire, Jane Eagles obtained a Marriage Licence for marriage to Richard HEWITT; Jane's age was 48, Richard's 64 (ref fmp Licence Bond and Allegation). The marriage was on the 16 Aug 1827 at Chester Holy Trinity; they were widow and widower; witnesses were Edward & Elizabeth Lowe (presumably her brother) (ref fmp Cheshire Chester Parish Marriages image). Richard was born c1763.

Jane and Richard not found in UK census.
There is a possible burial of Jane Hewitt 23 Mar 1840 at Liverpool St John, died 19 Mar, age 63, residence Bronte Street (ref Ancestry Lancashire CofE Burials).
