There are several shipping records to and from India for both parties.

Birth of Vincent Norman Strickland 10 Feb 1880, bap 22 Feb 1880 at Dalhousie, Bengal, India, son of George Strickland & Harriet (ref Ancestry India Select Births and Baptisms).

Vincent enlisted 18 Oct 1897 in the Ox & Bucks LI, Ferozepore (ref Personal Ref 3).

Marriage 16 Apr 1906 at Agra, Bengal, India of Vincent Norman Strickland to Mary Erina VERA-O'SULLIVAN; Vincent was age 25, son of George Strickland; Mary was age 23, single, dau of Timothy Vera-O'Sullivan (ref Ancestry India Select Marriages with Vern rather than the correct Vera). The marriage was also registered in Ireland in Dec qtr 1906 (ref Ireland Civil Registration Marriage Index, in Ancestry and FamilySearch, listed as registration district of Lucknow, Ireland, but there is no such place. This is possibly a compilation of marriages in India of people of Irish descent.). Mary was born at Lucknow, India on 10 Mar 1883 and bap there on 25 Mar 1883 (ref Personal Ref 3).

On completion of his regular engagement with the Ox and Bucks Light Infantry, Vincent transferred for service with the Indian Army Ordnance Department, taking various roles, with whom he was commissioned early in 1917. He was a Captain (acting unpaid) when he was mortally wounded (gas) in France on 19 March 1917 and died in London 10 May 1917.

Vincent was buried at Kensal Green (All Souls) Cemetery, London. He is buried in one of a series of group-graves located at the Soldiers' Plot. The Burial Register notes that Vincent N.W.Strickland was buried on 14th May 1917 in group grave no. 26 together with 9 others in May and June.

Clinton enlisted in the 12th (East Suffolk) Regiment. He transferred to the 78th (Seaforth Highlanders) Regiment. CSM 8th (Service) Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders 1915-1916. He was mortally wounded at Martinpuich, Somme, in Aug 1916 (Personal Ref 3).

He died at the battle of the Somme on 21st September 1916 and was buried at Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension; his rank was Company Serjeant Major; Service Number 3/7884; aged 34; member of 8th Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders; Mentioned in Despatches; son of Harriet Perry (formerly Strickland), of "Perry Ville," Eastern Canal Rd., Dehra Dun, United Provinces, India (ref

Birth of Cassily Lionely Strickland 4 Feb 1884, bap 8 Mar 1884 at Delhi, Bengal, India, son of George Strickland & Harriet (ref Ancestry India Select Births and Baptisms).

Cassily enlisted in the 12th (East Suffolk) Regiment. He transferred to the 16th (Bedfordshire) Regiment and then to the 78th (Seaforth Highlanders). He was in the Imperial Postal Service Inspectorate between the wars.

Cassily married on 6 Feb 1909 at Baptist Church, Calcutta to Susan Edith BEAUCHAMP. She was born in 1880 at Shoreditch, England.

Their 4 children were Joan Elizabeth (b1909), Jean Harriet (b1909), Paul Richard (b1911), Ruth (b1917).
There is an incoming journey of Mrs E.S.Strickland and her 4 children coming from Burma to England in 1927 (ref Ancestry UK immigration).

Name: Cassily Lionel Strickland. Age 14. Birth place Delhi Bengal. Service Start Year: 1898. Regimental Number: Ox/5962. Attestation Paper: Yes. (ref Ancestry, UK Royal Hospital Chelsea Pensioner Soldier Service Records). It is not known whether Cassily was drawing a pension of some sort.

Cassily was last heard of in Burma c1941-42, possibly killed in the war against the Japanese.

5.   George Roland STRICKLAND
Birth of George Roland Strickland 1887 at Delhi, India (Personal Ref 3).
George enlisted c1905 in the 78th (Seaforth Highlanders), then transferred to the 16th (Bedfordshires) and then the 12th (East Suffolks), and to the Royal Welch Fusiliers, Mesport, during World War 1.

Marriage 1 May 1920 at Nowshera, Bengal, India of George Rowland [sic] Strickland to Norah Mary HALL nee NOLAN; George was age 33, son of George Strickland; Mary was widowed, age 31, dau of William John Nolan (ref Ancestry India Marriages).

George may have returned to England. Death of George uncertain, though there is a death reg of George R. Strickland Mar qtr 1939 at Paddington dist, London, age 51 (ref FreeBMD). No probate found.

Born 24 Jul 1918 at Kolar, Madras, India; a letter of certification dated August 17, 1965 states "To whom it may concern. This is to certify that a daughter (later named Noreen Annis Maxine) born to Ada Eagles [sic] and Cecil Henry Eagles on July 24, 1918. The actual copy of the birth register is not available. The above information is available from the Obstetrics register and other sources. Dr. Michael J. Cartner. Medical Director, Ellen T. Cowen Memorial Hospital, Kolar, S. India." (Her passport dated 1946 has an incorrect birth date of 1909.)

Married 24 Jul 1943 at Church of the Holy Family, Srinagar, Kashmir, India to Albert Charles Maria GELARDI; Albert (as Bertie Charles) was age 32, bachelor, Army Captain; Noreen (as Noreen Annis Maxine) was age 25, spinster, both residences Srinigar (ref Mar Cert seen). Albert was born 24 Jul 1911 at Kensington, London, son of Giulio M. & Piera M. Gelardi. Both their birthdays, and their marriage, were on 24th July.

They emigrated to South Africa with a new born son in 1946, and her parents, Cecil and Ida, followed the following year.
In July 1961 they moved to England due to apartheid in South Africa, having previously migrated from India due to racial concerns after the British left India.

Noreen died 2 Aug 1999 at Chertsey, Surrey, England; her occupation was as a Mathematics Teacher (retired), wife of Albert Charles Maria Gelardi a Hotelier/Company Director (retired), usual address Amroth Woburn Hill Addlestone Surrey (red Death Cert seen)

Albert died 13 Mar 2004 at Addlestone, Surrey, England.
