Gabriel was mentioned in the Will of his great uncle Thomas Heard in 1825 and received a legacy:
"Item my Best Watch mark’d Thomas Palmer I Give and bequeath unto Gabriel Heard Son of my Nephew John Heard immediately after my Decease".

The name George was added by 1837.

There is some mystery here; also, in the 1871 census in Ovenden, Yorkshire, Alfred was an unmarried musician, but he may have been a widower without telling the census taker.
