There is a burial 19 Nov 1795 of an Isaac Cosson which may be him, at St Matthew Bethnal Green (ref Ancestry Baps Marr & Bur).
The burial 25 Aug 1812 of Jane Cosson at St Matthew Bethnal Green is most likely her, because there is a Will registered of a Jane Cosson in 1812, Widow of Spitalfields, with reference PROB 11/1536/88.

Marr 10 Jul 1758 at St Matthew, Bethnal Green to James Philip COURCHE (ref Ancestry London Marriage, same day as that of her sister Madeleine Anne). James was a Bachelor of the parish. Marr 14 Aug 1749 at "Savoye de Spring Gardens et les Greces French Huguenot Church", London to Marie WALKER (ref FamilySearch not IGI).

In Daniel Rollet's Will in 1753 he had the following:
Also I give to Anne Magdalene Levesque, Peter Levesque and John Levesque children of my brother John Levesque the sum of five pounds a piece.

Jean died approximately 1766, based on the memoir of his son Peter, which says that he was born in 1758 and his father died when he was 8 years of age.
The most likely burial record is that of John Levesque buried 8 Oct 1766 at Whitstable, Kent, England, son of John Levesque & Ann (ref Familysearch).
There is also a John Levesque buried 4 Sep 1764 at St Matthews Bethnal Green. There are two Mary Levesques buried 1 Feb 1778 and 14 Mar 1790 at St Matthews.

Previously on this website I had Jean marrying Susan Sarah Lauzanne in common with some other researchers. However opinion has moved over to that Jean being a different one, baptised 1735, son of Louis Levesque and Marie Dono, probably the owner of the will dated 5 Mar 1803. (Ref G.Olsen 2011). He is probably the one buried 11 Mar 1803 at St Matthews, Bethnal Green (ref Ancestry London Births, Marriages, Burials).

In 1753 Daniel received a bequest from his uncle Daniel Rollet:
" to my godson, Daniel Levesque, the son of my brother, John Levesque, deceased, the sum of ten pounds".

Marr Jeanne BOISSINEAU [Jane BOISSINOT]. She was born 29 Dec 1730, bap 10 Jan 1731 at Threadneedle Street French Huguenot, dau of Pierre Boissineau and Judith Lambert (ref IGI & PC, marriage not found). Her Godparents were Rene Huet and Jeanne Limar, Vol 23 #146.

Daniel is probably the Godfather of the second son of his sister Anne Magdelaine Courche in 1761.

Daniel is probably the one listed in Fire Insurance Registers: 1786, Daniel L'Evesque, Brewer, St John Street, Brick Lane, insured value £500 (ref
http://www.londonlives.org/index.jsp).

According to his tombstone at Bunhill Fields, Daniel Levesque died on 2 Feb 1794 and Jane on 16 Dec 1807.
The inscription is "In memory of MR DANIEL LEVESQUE late of St Matthews Bethnal Green who departed this life February 2nd 1794 in the 64th year of his age. Also MRS JANE LEVESQUE, wife of the above, who departed this life Decr. 16th 1807, in the 79th year of her age. Also MR DANIEL LEVESQUE son of the above who died 30th January 1818 in the 64th year of his age. Also MR PETER LEVESQUE [son] who died 27th Febry 1842 aged 78 years also MRS LYDIA LEVESQUE wife of the above who died 27th Febry 1845 aged 82 years." (ref
www.findagrave.com)

There is a discrepancy in the burial date for Daniel in the various records. Findmypast gives the City of London Burials at Bunhill Fields on 7 Feb 1794, his address Bethnal Green. Findmypast also gives the England &Wales Non-conformist burials transcription of dissenters at Bunhill Fields with burial date 10 Feb 1794 and shows the document this was copied from. These non-conformist records (RG4-8) with 10 Feb 1794 are also in FamilySearch. The date of 7 Feb seems more likely. Bunhill Fields was a burial place in London for Noncomformists, Dissenters, and other people who died outside the Church of England.

Again according to the tombstone, Jane Levesque died on 16 Dec 1807 and was buried at Bunhill Fields either 22nd or 23rd December according to different versions in Findmypast.

They were referred to in the Huguenot Hospital records of their grandson John as 'Daniel & Jane Levesque of the same place [Brick Lane, Bethnal Green], who fulfilled an appointment in the French Chapel, St. John Street many years, who also carried on the Trade of a Brewer &c'.

This Jean cannot be the one above who married Marie Walker, due to their daughter Madeleine being born 10 Sep 1756 and bap 2 Oct 1756 in the same months as this couple's son Daniel. However, Daniel Ro(u)llet is connected with both.
Married Marie WALHER.

There is a reference to a John Baptist Levesque in 1788 in Land Tax Records; Civil Parish or Ward, St Matthew, Bethnal Green; Borough Tower Hamlets; Call Number MR/PLT/5004 (ref Ancestry London Land Tax Records).

There are possible burials of Ann on 22 Nov 1795 and 3 Apr 1800 at St Matthew, Bethnal Green, with no further details (ref Ancestry London Burials).
John's death not found.

1.   Abraham LEVESQUE

Abraham's first marriage is still to be identified. It is possible that he married Marie Anne GAILLARD on 17 Jan 1730/31 at Saint Jean French Huguenot, Spitalfields; the witness was Marie Manourie (ref Ancestry England & Wales Non-Conformist & Non-Parochial Registers image in French). There is a possible burial of a Mary Ann Levesque on 28 Mar 1762 (new form) at St Matthew, Bethnal Green. No children of this marriage are mentioned in his Will, while his daughter Elizabeth from his second marriage was to receive a large fortune.

Presumably Abraham was a witness to his sister Marie's wedding in 1739/40, unless their father was also named Abraham.

Marriage 11 Jun 1764 at St Matthew, Bethnal Green of Abraham Levesque to Elizabeth TIQUET; both were of the Parish of St Matthew Bethnal Green; Abraham was a Widower and Elizabeth a Spinster; married by Licence; witnesses Ph. J. May & Stephen Forel (obscure) (ref Ancestry London Marriages image).

Abraham was buried 10 Apr 1771 at St Matthew, Bethnal Green (ref Ancestry London Burials).

His Will was dated 5 Feb 1768. It was proved on 20 Apr 1771.
It is attached here.
In this Will he names and gives an inheritence to his wife Elizabeth, his daughter Elizabeth (the large fortune of one thousand five hundred pounds), his nephew Jacob Dore, his brother Peter Levesque, his nephews and nieces Abraham Levesque, Peter Levesque, Magdalen Levesque and John Levesque, and nominates his wife, Jacob Dore and Abraham Ogier to be the Executors. There is a further mention of his brother Peter in the event of the death of the daughter Elizabeth a minor or unmarried, that Peter would receive the amount mentioned, or his issue if any (though the writing is obscure). The mention of Abraham, Peter and Magdalen appears to tie this Peter to the marriage with Madeleine Hericher, below.

Elizabeth married (2) 16 Oct 1771 at Christ Church with St Mary and St Stephen, Spitalfields to John WILLIS; John was a widower of the parish of St Mary the Great in the [?] of Cambridge, and Elizabeth was a widower of the parish where the marriage took place; by Licence; witnesses Philip Tiquet and James Chanoury (ref Ancestry London Marriages).

    Child of Abraham and Elizabeth:
  1. Elizabeth LEVESQUE born 1765, bap 1765 at The Artillery-French Huguenot, Spitalfields, London

2.   Marie LEVESQUE
Married 23 Mar 1739/40 at Saint Jean, Spitalfields, London to Jacques DORAY; witnesses were Abraham Levesque and Jean Levesque (ref Ancestry England & Wales Non-Conformist & Non-Parochial Registers, image in French). Presumably these two witnesses were her brothers, unless her father was Abraham or Jean.

Marie is placed here in the tree because her son Jacob was named as Jean Levesque's cousin (b1746) in Jean's Will, and vice versa.

There is a burial of a Mary Dore on 24 Mar 1798 at St James Clerkenwell, Middlesex, but not further details are known.

    Child:
  1. Jacob DORAY (later known as DORÉ) born 1741, bap 1741 at Saint Jean French Protestant, Spitalfields, London

3.   Pierre LEVESQUE (later known as Peter)

Married 1736 at St Jean Spitalfields to Madeleine HERICHER (ref Boyd's Marriage Index in findmypast as Magdalen). The marriage was 22 Aug 1736.
'1736, 22 Aout. Pierre Levesque—Madeleine Hericher; mar. par Mr Vincent. Tems. Jean Caron, Anc. et Sec., Charles Perrette, Anc
Pierre Hericher, Abraham Levesque.'

Madeleine was bap 22 Feb 1708 at Saint Jean French Huguenot, Spitalfields, dau of Pierre Hericher & Madellenne Dupuy (ref IGI). Note both a HERICHER and a DUPUY connection on the "other" page.

He is described as a Weaver of Bethnal Green at the burial of his son Abraham in 1742.
He is a possible witness for a possible marriage of his daughter Marie in 1763.
Peter was mentioned in his brother Abraham's Will in 1768, see above for attachment. He was also mentioned in his nephew Jacob Dore's Will in 1790.

Attached is a Will which is probably Pierre's. It was written in 1791, and that person was buried 5 Sep 1800 at St Matthew Bethnal Green, with no birth date or age given. He originally left his estate to his daughter Magdalen Levesque and her husband John Levesque; by the time of his death, this John Levesque had also died.
The Will of Peter Levesque Widower of Shoreditch (pdf)

Peter states that he was a Widower in 1791 when writing his Will. Madeleine/Magdalen's death has not been found. He also states that he was a member of the Society of Lintot.
"Friendly Societies. Another is the society of Lintot, founded in London in o8, in which the office of secretary was for more than half a century filled by persons of the name of Levesque, one of whom published a translation of its original rules. No one was to be received into the society who was not a member, or the descendant of a member, of the church of Lintot, of recognized probity, a good Protestant, and well-intentioned towards the queen [Anne] and faithful to the government of the country. No one was to be admitted below the age of eighteen, or who had not been received at holy communion and become member of a church. A member should not have a claim to relief during his first year's membership, but if he fell sick within the year a collection should be made for him among the members." (ref Encyc. Britt. 1911 on Wikisource)

  7. Madelaine LEVESQUE (2) born 1754, bap 1754 at Saint Jean French Huguenot, Spitalfields, London

4.   Jean LEVESQUE

Presumably Jean was a witness to his sister Marie's wedding in 1739/40, unless their father was also named Jean.

Jean married 12 Apr 1744 in St Jean, Spitalfields, London to Anne BARBET; witnesses were Jean Barbet, Guillaume Barbet, Michel Fournié, Isaac Poulain and Jâques Giles (ref Ancestry England & Wales Non-Conformist and Non-Parochial Registers, image in French, 2 different versions). She was born 20 Mar 1724 in East London and was a dau of Jean Barbet and Susanne Fontaine.

Anne had a sister Susanne Barbet born 22 Nov 1725, bap 2 Dec 1725 who is most probably the person referred to in John's (b1746) Will, below, and the baptism of many of his children.

John is not mentioned in his brother Abraham's Will in 1768, and so may have died earlier; there is a burial of John Levesque 4 Sep 1764 at St Matthew, Bethnal Green, no age given (ref Ancestry London Burials).

The actual marriage record not found. There may be a connection that Magdalen's sister Esther married Daniel Olivier in 1768.

It is very likely that it was this Pierre/Peter Levesque who was an early partner with the Beuzeville family and others, at 24 Steward Street, Spitalfields. James Beuzeville (1), born before 1685 near Bolbec in Normandy, died 1745, founded the silk manufacturing firm in about 1725, which was carried on by the family until 1827. Peter Levesque, who was identified in family papers as a cousin, was taken into partnership, as were later the eldest son James Beuzeville (2) (born Bolbec about 1708), his brother Stephen also born in Normandy, and William Beloncle who was the son-in-law of the second James. The firm continued to be associated with the Levesque name until nearly the end of its life, but it is not known which Levesque was involved at that point. See website
http://www.byles.net/family/beuz2.html for more information about this family.

Samuel Beuzeville was the fourth child of the above James Beuzeville (1). He was born 1717 at St. Thomas de Gruchet, near Bolbec, Normandy, in the general area where the Levesque and Campart families came from, and died in 1782. He took Holy Orders and was the Pastor of the Church of St. Jean, Spitalfields from 1758 until 1782. In his Will written in 1782 he included books left to Mr. Ephraim Flammare, and to Hannah, eldest daughter of cousin James Levesque, ten pounds, among many specific legacies to various people. There are still connections to be sorted out with Mr. Ephraim Flammare being mentioned in two of the wills.
The Wills are transcribed on the
Wills page.

The Will of William Belloncle, written 14 Apr 1887, specifies "to my late partner Peter Levesque of Steward Street aforesaid weaver" and his wife Ann Levesque and a number of further details in a very long Will available on Ancestry, proved 1 Oct 1787; he also mentions the Beuzeville family.

James Beuzeville died in 1799. The following notice appeared:
"Notice is hereby given that the Partnership lately subsisting between James Beuzeville, Peter Levesque, and James Barbet, of Steward-Street, in the Old Artillery Ground, in the Liberty of the Tower of London, Silk Manufacturers, being dissolved by the Death of the said James Beuzeville, the Trade will in future be carried on by the said Peter Levesque and James Barbet only, but under the Stile and Firm of Beuzeville, Levesque, and Barbet: witness our Hands this 13th Day of August 1799.
Peter Levesque, James Barbet. James Guillemard, One of the Executors of James Beuzeville.
(ref the London Gazette, 5 Nov 1799)

The Partnership between Peter Levesque, James Barbet and Stephen Beuzeville, Silk Manufacturers, was reported dissolved in the Morning Post of Monday 18 Jul 1808 (ref British Newspaper Archive).

Peter died 7 Sep 1814. Peter's burial occurred on 15 September 1814 at Christ Church Spitalfields, age at death 77, address at death Spital Square (ref findmypast).
"DEATHS. On the 7th inst. [September] Peter Levesque, Esq. aged 77." (ref British Newspapers Archive, The Examiner, Sun 11 Sep 1814)

According to his Will he left a fortune to daughters Ann and Mary and son Peter. Probate was given for his Will on 17 Dec 1814, see the
Wills page and below here.
In the name of God Amen. I Peter Levesque of Spital Square do give and bequeath unto my daughter Ann two thousand five hundred pounds also to my other daughter Mary two thousand five hundred pounds good and lawful money of Great Britain. The remainer of my property of whatsoever nature or kind I give unto my son Peter who is to pay the above sums to his sisters within one month after my decease.
Witness my hand the 6 Sep 1814. Peter Levesque.
