On 1 Jan 1855 George annnounced that he was again in business:
"Mr. George Edward [sic] Shuttleworth, Jun.

Removed his Offices to 32, Poultry, London,

(ref BNA, Morning Chronicle, Wed 11 July 1855)

George clearly died between 1855 and 1861, but the death is not found in FreeBMD; the only two deaths of George Shuttleworth in that period that appear likely are that of his father in Sep qtr 1855 at Brighton, and that of a man in Jun qtr 1857 in St George Hanover Square district. The newspaper reports of this person's death refer to a chimneysweep:
"MYSTERIOUS AND DREADFUL OCCURRENCE IN CHESHAM ST, BELGRAVE SQUARE. On Wednesday morning, a man, named George Shuttleworth, having been sent for to sweep the chimneys at Lady Jane Levett's, No. 13, in the above street, he came accordingly, about eight o'clock, and, after being occupied some little time with the kitchen chimney, was observed to kneel down and say his prayers. .." He subsequently fell or jumped off the roof and died. (ref BNA, West Middlesex Advertiser and Family Journal, Sat 11 Apr 1857).

"OBITUARY.
CAPTAIN SEARLE.
We record with regret the death of Captain William L. Searle, late of the Indian Navy, which occurred on Sunday morning, in his 84th year, at his residence, "Eirene", Northumberland Road. By his decease, Leamington not only loses one of its most respected burgesses and the poor a generous friend, but his passing adds yet another to the list of gallant and honourable early-Victorian officers, who at a time when even elderly men and women of the present generation were in their cradles, were upholding the prestige of the British Flag in the East and living those lives of daring and activity by means of which both Services saved and kept the brightest jewel in His Majesty's Crown - The Indian Empire.
Captain Searle, the son of Dr. Charles Searle, M.D., M.R.C.S., medical officer in the old East Indian Service, was born at Madras on the 25th June, 1828. His career, which was notable, dated from 1845, when on the 1st September of that year he entered the Indian Navy as mid-shipman on H.M. receiving ship Hastings. He became Acting Master in January, 1850, and in the autumn of the same year Mate of the Hastings, attaining the rank of Lieutenant (still in H.M.S. Hastings) in 1854. He was made First Lieutenant in 1861, serving in various vessels, and the year following was appointed Commander of H.M. Berenice. He was given the rank of Captain by the Bombay Government in 1867, the same designation being accorded him by the Government of India. Until his retirement in 1884, Captain Searle filled many posts in the Marine and Uncovenanted Service, including among others those of Dock Master, Superintendent of Marine and Resident Transport Officer at Bombay, and Superintendent of Marine and Dockyard, Calcutta. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, London, in 1861, and in 1864 received commendations from the Provost and Senior Fellows of Trinity College, Dublin, for magnetic and meteorological observations made by him in that year. He was one of the oldest members of the East India United Service Club, London, and the Sussex Club, Eastbourne. He was also a member of the Leamington Tennis Court Club.
Captain Searle at various times in his career saw much service on the coasts of Arabia, in the Persian Gulf, and in the Indian Ocean. On the occasion of the visit to India of the Prince of Wales (the late King Edward VII) in 1876, Captain Searle (then Superintendent of Marine at Bombay) was sent for by Sir Bartle Frere, at the request of His Royal Highness. When Captain Searle arrived on board the "Serapis," he was presented to His Royal Highness, who gave him a pair of gold sleeve links, ornamented with an anchor set with diamonds, at the same time courteously expressing his thanks to Captain Searle for the excellent arrangements made by the Master Attendant's Department.
Some years after his retirement, Captain Searle took up residence in Leamington. Although he did not take a prominent part in public affairs, he may be said to have identified himself in a quiet and unostentatious way with every side of religious and philanthropic work. Greatly benevolent, his private charity will never be known, for he rigidly adhered to the scriptural principle "Let not thy left hand know what thy right doeth." A Churchman of strong evangelical principles, he was for some years People's Warden at St. Mark's Church, and acted as sidesman until prevented by illness. He was a member of the Committee of the Home for Incurables up to the date of his death. He was until a few years ago a member of the Committee of the Leamington Provident Dispensary. Captain Searle's wife predeceased him some three years since. He leaves by a former wife a son, Mr. William Henry Willoughby Searle, a retired Commander in the Indian Marine, now living in India; and a daughter, Mrs. Baker, a widow lady resident in London, the mother of Captain Searle's six grand-children.
THE FUNERAL.
The funeral took place on Wednesday morning, the first part of the service being held in St. Mark's Church, Milverton. ....At the conclusion of the service the cortege reformed, and proceeded to the Great Western Railway Station, whence the remains were conveyed to Paddington. The interment was in Norwood Cemetery. ..." (ref BNA, Leamington Spa Courier, Friday 1 Dec 1911)

"SEARLE William Lycurgas [sic] of Eirene Leamington died 26 November 1911 Probate London 30 January to Richard Annesley Walker solicitor and the Public Trustee. Effects £6588." (ref Ancestry National Probate)

"Captain William Lycurgus Searle, of Eirene, Leamington, formerly of the Indian Navy, who saw much active service on the coasts of Arabia and in the Persian Gulf and in the Indian Ocean, and who died in November last, aged eighty-three years, left estate valued at £6,588 gross, with net personalty £6,423. The testator left £50 to the Midland Counties Home for Incurables, Leamington; to his grandson, Wilfred Ancell Baker, the solitaires presented to him by his late Majesty King Edward VII on the occasion of his visit to India in 1876, a case and contents presented to him by the Eastern Submarine Telegraph Company, his yacht racing cups, gold watch and chain, and £1,000; to Sir Richard Temple, his idol of Buddha, his Babylonian brick, and his radium; £400 to Lydia Newenham, the faithful friend and companion of his late wife and himself; and £100 to his old servant Eliza Livings." (ref BNA, Leamington Spar Courier - Friday 2 Feb 1912) [There is no mention of where the bulk of his estate went.]

"For the first time on record in England radium has been left as a bequest in a will. The document in question is that of the late Captain William Lycurgus Searle, of Leamington." (ref BNA, Hull Daily Mail, Fri 2 Feb 1912)

NOTE: He presumably did not know how dangerous it was. Radium was discovered by Marie Sklodowska-Curie and her husband Pierre Curie on 21 December 1898. Radium was formerly used in self-luminous paints for watches, nuclear panels, aircraft switches, clocks, and instrument dials. In the mid-1920s, a lawsuit was filed against the United States Radium Corporation by five dying " Radium Girl " dial painters who had painted radium-based luminous paint on the dials of watches and clocks. The dial painters routinely licked their brushes to give them a fine point, thereby ingesting radium. Their exposure to radium caused serious health effects which included sores, anemia , and bone cancer. (ref Wikipedia, Radium)
