  1. John PELLOW bap 1790 at Milton Abbot, Devon

4.   William BICKELL
Bap 8 Mar 1767 at Milton Abbot: William, Son of Thomas and Grace Bickle (ref fmp Plymouth Baptism image)

The reasons for identifying this William with the following information are as follows: at burial William's age of 65 indicates he was born about 1767, and his marriage in 1785 in Marystow identifies him as not being from Marystow. The only two alternatives I have found are the above William, and another bap the same year at Walkhampton; however, Walkhampton is much further away from Marystow than Milton Abbot is.

Married (1) 21 Apr 1785 at Marystow to Elizabeth COOMBE. The record reads "No 58. An Elizabeth Bickle was buried at Milton Abbott on 1 Feb 1789.

Married (2) 9 Sep 1793 at Calstock, Cornwall to Elizabeth PENGELLY. The bride's name was spelt Pengellay (ref findmypast). The wedding was by Banns; the groom's residence was "sojourner otp" and the bride's residence "otp" [presumed to mean of this parish]; the witnesses were Josh. Williams and Richard Hearn (ref Cornwall online parish clerk). Her most probable baptism is 25 Apr 1773 at Calstock, Cornwall, dau of William and Mary Pengelly (ref FamilySearch and Cornwall OPC). This matches her age at death of 73 in 1845. Her mother was probably Mary LIGHT as William and Mary married in 1768 in Calstock.

William was named as a Thatcher in the baptisms of 1794, 1799, 1801, 1803, 1805, 1807, 1811, 1813 and 1815.
