		Issue of John (Jean) Brimage
1.		John (Jean) BRIMAGE Born c1756 in Devon, England. His birthplace is referred to "of Okam Devon" at his marriage to Susannah Street at Town Church St Peter Port. This is now taken to be the locality named Oakham which occurs on a 1765 map of Devon halfway between Dawlish and Teignmouth (now Holcombe); see also information in the other Brimage tree for the descendants of Thomas Brimage, showing a connection between the two (this map identified by researcher Thea Clayton). His later marriage to Marthe Allez has "son of John Brimage of the town of Tinmouth in the county of Devon" at Town Church St Peter Port. There is a record listing Jno Brimage, Apprentice to Tho Bass, Shipwright of West Teignmouth, payment dated 27 Nov 1773 (ref Ancestry). The 1779 list of Plymouth Artificers (available online by searching Genuki Plymouth Artificers 1779, providing details of approximately three thousand workers at the Plymouth Dock Yard), includes the following details for John Brimage: #684, time of entry 20th Jan 1778, age 23, Shipwright, 11 months service exclusive of apprenticeship, single, served his apprenticeship at Teignmouth, good workman, sober man, some figures related to 'supperannuation', height 5 ft 8 inches, complection fresh, scar over left eye, came from Teignmouth. A marriage (1) has been found on 21 Jan 1782 at Stoke Damerel church, Plymouth, Devon as follows: No. 578, John Brimage of this Parish, Shipwright, and Elizabeth GOULD, of this Parish, Spinster, were married in this Church by Licence this twentyfirst day of January in the year one thousand seven hundred and eighty two by me John Sunderland Curate. This marriage was solemnized between us John Brimage, Elizabeth Gould her mark X, in the presence of Elizth Hurford and Matthew Dawson (a church clerk). (ref findmypast, actual record). Elizabeth presumably died before 1791, but her burial is not found in findmypast or other records searched. During the period before 1791, John migrated to Guernsey, Channel Islands. Marr (2) on 3 Apr 1791 at Town Church, St Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands, UK to Susannah STREET. John was born at "Okam Devon". Susannah was born c1771 at Ringwood, Hampshire, England. Susannah died Jun 1800 in Guernsey. She was buried 1 Jul 1800 in Guernsey. Marr (3) on 24 Sep 1801 at Town Church, St Peter Port, Guernsey to Martha ALLEZ. John was described as "son of John Brimage of the town of Tinmouth in the County of Devon". Martha was born in Guernsey, dau of Thomas Allez. Martha died May 1814 at St Peter Port, Guernsey. She was buried 15 May 1814 at St Peter Port, Guernsey. John died on 23 Oct 1814 at St Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands. He was buried on 23 Oct 1814 in Guernsey.
