Marr (2) 28 May 1825 at St Pancras Parish Church to Mary Tuffin PENNY; the groom was of Petworth in the County of Essex, Widower; the bride was spinster of the parish (ref Ancestry London Marriages). She was bap 4 May 1788 at Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, dau of Francis Penny & Elizabeth, and sister of above (ref FamilySeaqrch C07225-02). There is a burial in 1828 that is almost certainly Mary: that of Mary Levesque, abode St Pancras Middlesex, age 42, buried 18 Aug 1828 at Spitalfields Christ Church with St Mary and St Stephen (ref Ancestry London Burials). However, this would imply that the baptism of Susan took place at the age of at least 2, and Elizabeth's at least 1, and does not explain why they were baptised at Horsham. John mentioned in his father's Will in 1829. It is most likely that John was the author of a book called "The Art of Brewing and Fermenting, in the Summer, and all other seasons, to the greatest advantage, and the Making of Malt, exhibited in Essays, and Decimal Tables, accurately calculated, the result of upwards of forty years' experience; also, a description of the author's newly-invented Thermometer, by the application of which extreme precision and considerable saving will be effected; and a Copper-Plate Engraving of an Economical Plan for the erection of a Brewhouse, including his Newly-invented Copper with moveable Pan; likewise a comparitive statement of the malt liquor brewed in London in the years 1759 and 1835, with the names of the Brewers, by John Levesque, formerly of The Anchor Brewhouse, Old Street, St. Luke's; London 1836, several editions, reprinted 1853 with additions by another author. He would have been 55 years old at the time of publication. This book is available online via Google Books and other sources. Ref 1841 census. Essex, England. Civil Parish of St James. Born in Middlesex. Josiah's father's Will in the 1840s mentions Josiah and Elizabeth Levesque (children of son Josiah added after his death). See previous generation. An advertisement placed in the Morning Post of Mon 19 Jun 1843 appears to connect Elizabeth with No. 8 Pitfield-street at that time, though this address does not show up until the 1851 census, and by Jun 1843, Elizabeth was already married to William Edmeades, so it is a bit uncertain: "WANTED, by an experienced Person, 37 years of age, a situation as HOUSEKEEPER. She has been accustomed to the management of servants in a Gentleman's establishment, understands preserving, pickling, confectionery, and cooking. Can have an unexceptionable character from the situation she has just left. Town or country not objected to. Address A. B., at Mrs. Levesque's, No. 8, Pitfield-street, Hoxton." In the 1841 census, William Edmeads was a Piano Forte Maker, aged 25, at the parish of St Stephens Walbrook, living with Rebecca Edmeads (50). He was born c1813 at Rochester, Kent (ref census). The following information appears in Google Books - Makers of Pianos (ref G.Olsen 2012): "EDMEADES, William and Co. [fl.c.1839-43] Makers at 32 Walbrook and 45 Bartholomew Close, London. [Harding/PIANO, 409; Pigot 39; Wat 40] A connection between this maker and Levesque, Edmeades & Co. has not been established. See LEVESQUE, Josiah and Elizabeth. [Pugot 39 and Rob 40] Thus it is unclear which of the two was the actual maker and which the business partner. In 1844 the firm were listed as Levesque, Edmeades & Co. They were located at 8 Haberdasher Walk, Horton, from 1844 to 1848. The firm's later addresses were 40 Cheapside from 1848 to 1857; 63 Fleet Street from 1858 to 1862; 14 New Gloucester Terrace, Hoxton, in 1854, 55 Essex Street, Hoxton, from 1855 to 1870; and 63 Fleet Street from 1858 to 1862.
