He was baptised (son of John and Mary Little of Blennerhasset, Husbandman) on 3 March 1839 at Torpenhow, Cumberland (ref the Parish records and Bishop's Transcripts). It is virtually certain that they travelled as unassisted migrants on the "Eagle" which left Liverpool on 8 Sep 1851 and arrived at Port Philip 24 Dec 1851. William appears to be listed as Frederick. It is presumed this went to Geelong. In Jan 1859 William was informant for birth and death of brother Robert Henry at Geelong (but he may have been living at Melbourne or Ballarat). Marr 1862 in Ballarat to Catherine Walford (Kate) CAZALY. See Cazaly tree. "MARRIAGE. On Monday, 21st April, at Wesley Church, Lydiard street, by the Rev. J. S. In the 1865-66 Ballarat and District Directory is a listing for William Little, Estate Agent, Raglan St. William was a prominent Ballarat citizen, estate agent and author. An amusing account of the meeting of William Little with Mark Twain (Samuel L Clemens) is attached, from the book "Following the Equator". It appears that William Little co-authored a document 'Lorne, the Australian Torquay' with James Hingston (1830-1902), a well-known travel writer; this is referred to in the Australian Dictionary of Biography, Supplementary Volume, MUP 2005, pp 179-180. Her address is given as 25 Clarendon Street in her Will and Probate which are available on Ancestry and in the Fred Shade APT. Probate was valued at £1430 15s. 6d and the Executor was William Little. In 1909, daughter Fanny Beatrice (home duties) was listed with her father William (Agent) at 205 Clarendon Street, Ballarat (ref Ancestry). William died 2 Oct 1916 at Clarendon Street, Ballarat, Victoria, Australia (Vic reg 12908), ref his death cert. The 'Ballarat Courier' of 4 Oct 1916 carried this advertisement under Deaths: "LITTLE.-On 2nd October, at his residence, Brayton, 205 Clarendon street, Ballarat, William Little; aged 77 years." 11.		Ada Grave LITTLE Born 22 May 1861 at Ballaarat East (Vic reg 7667), ref her birth certificate. "BIRTH. On the 22nd instant, the wife of Mr John Little, stationer, of a daughter." (ref Trove, The Star Ballarat, Thur 23 May 1861) Marr (1) in 1885 to William HUGHES, born Ballarat, died 1893 (Vic marr reg 2033). An article in Trove (The Age, 11 May 1893) indicates that the jury returned a verdict that "deceased had met his death from a gun shot wound self inflicted, but that there was no evidence to show what was the deceased's state of mind at the time." The actual wound occurred on the 20th January and he was treated for some time in East Melbourne, so the actual death date is not specified. Marr (2) in 1894 to Edward Rowe HOCKING, born Ballarat (Vic marr reg 4026). Edward was the son of Joseph Hocking and Mary Ann Paul, and died at Parkville in 1934 (Vic reg 2157). Ada died 28 Sep 1936 at Carlton (Vic reg 8710). Her will/probate is available (285/856). By 1890 (her father's death) she was referred to as Ada Graves. Her final residence was 153 Barry Street, Carlton, and she was a widow.
