Family relations were strained from 4 July 1898, as described in the Scranton Tribune, Moosic, Pensylvania via the Library of Congress website, http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/:
Date 9th July 1898. "Before Alderman Millar .. Henry Thomas Copp of Moosic, in default of $800 bail was committed to jail to await trial on a charge of cruelty and threats preferred by his wife Elizabeth. The latter's stepson, Fred Copp, was held in $300 bail on Mrs. Copp's information that he threatened her life."
Date 15th July 1898. "Amy Copp of Moosic, swore out a warrant yesterday before Alderman Kasson for her step-mother, Daisy Copp, for throwing a pail of slop water on her from an upstairs window. This was only one episode in a free for all family fight in which the Copps have been indulging since July Fourth. The prosecutor a few days ago began a slander suit against her step-mother. Alderman Kasson held the defendant to bail."
Date 23rd Sep 1898. "Assault and Battery. .. Thomas H Copp [Henry Thomas], Elizabeth [Daisy] Copp, prox. County pay costs. Daisy Copp; Amy Copp, pros. County pay costs."
Date 4th Oct 1898. "Court House News Notes.. The surety case of Daisy Copp against Fred Copp was dismissed by Judge Archbald yesterday after a brief hearing and the defendant was ordered released from custody."
Date 19th Oct 1898. "Desertion and Non-Support. A warrant was issued yesterday by Alderman Millar for the arrest of Henry Thomas Copp, of Moosic, for deserting and not supporting his wife. The defendant gave bail for his appearance at court."
Date 10th Apr 1899. "Trial List for Criminal Court ... Saturday April 22. 243. Henry T Copp, desertion; Elizabeth Copp, prox."
