"Mr. J. M. Brimage, the brother of Captain Brimage, harbormaster at Port Germein, who arrived at Port Adelaide a few days ago, lately accomplished a somewhat daring voyage in a small boat about 22 ft. long. Accompanied by a lad he set out from Kingston in the little craft, which is only partly decked in, for Port Pirie, a distance of some 500 miles. He crossed over towards Kangaroo Island with a good strong wind, and made the passage to the Althorpes in safety, but after leaving this point astern he encountered a strong south-west gale, and had to run for shelter under the mainland of Yorke's Peninsula, where he stayed for a couple of days till the weather abated. Renewing his journey with the weather still boisterous Mr. Brimage made a course up Spencer's Gulf. Nearing Corby Point he fell in with the schooner Lady Daly, and boarded her for the purpose partly of procuring a chart, having left Kingston without providing himself with that necessary adjunct of navigation. Bidding good-bye to those on the schooner he continued his voyage, and amid strong south-easterly winds eventually reached Port Pirie where the little boat, which is named The Intrepid, attracted a considerable amount of attention. The trip lasteed some six days, and was rather long in such a small boat, especially as some very rough water is frequently encountered between Kingston and Port Pirie. The voyagers were wet through most of the time, and occasionally the little vessel shipped a considerable quantity of water. Mr. Brimage is at Port Adelaide preparing to sail a new fishing cutter of some 10 tons round to St. Vincent's Gulf. " (ref Trove, The Advertiser, Adelaide, Thurs 23 Apr 1891)
