Burman ~ Eighth Generation

Issue of Hugh Burman and Hester Hurdis
1.   Stephen BURMAN
Bap 31 Mar 1721 at Holy Trinity, Stratford On Avon, Warwickshire, Stephen, son of Hugh Burman (ref Ancestry England Select Births and Christenings).
According to the monument, Stephen was a sugar refiner & Citizen of London.

There are two entries on the database of the Sugar Refiners and Sugar Bakers (www.mawer.clara.net/sugarbbry.html) which are of interest:
Burman Stephen; with Christian Tielhen [a Sugar Refiner]; London; 1749-50; source PRO C 104/211
Burman S.; Mackelean R & Burman S; Rupert St; London; 1753; Source, the policy records of the Sun Fire Office (Insurers).

On generation 5, another Stephen Burman died in London in 1666 leaving a son Stephen born about 1660 and other children and it is possible that one of his descendants was in the sugar trade in London with this Stephen Burman.

Refer to the monument in Stratford church photographed by F.Shade in 2010. Some of the dates are indistinct.
Stephen died 8 Jan 1757 (ref monument).

6.   Lucy BURMAN
Bap 1732 at Holy Trinity, Stratford On Avon, Warwickshire, Lucy, dau of Hugh Burman (ref Ancestry England Select Births and Christenings).

Lucy's father Hugh died 23 July 1761; see his entry for the text of his Will in which he left his estate to Lucy who was the only one of his children still alive at the time, 5 of her siblings having died within a few years of each other in the decade before Hugh died, and one other sibling having died as a baby. Lucy's mother then died 5 years later.

Married in 1762 to the Rev. William DANIEL, Vicar of Stretton-on-Dunsmore (ref The Burman Chronicle 1940).
Marriage 13 Apr 1762 at Holy Trinity, Stratford On Avon, Warwickshire; he was of Southam; by Licence; by Edward Kenwrick, Vicar, in presence of Frances Preston, Walter Roberts (ref Ancestry England Extracted Parish Records).

Refer the National Archives DR 469/251/1/v, including in the contents:
1 Apr 1768. Assignment by Rev. William Daniel, Snitterfield and Lucy his wife (only child and administratrix of Hester Burman) to John Meacham, Stratford-upon-Avon, surgeon."

In reference to the parish church at Stratford On Avon:
"Near this place, in the family vault, lie the remains of Lucy Daniel, wife of the Rev. W. Daniel, of Stretton-upon-Dunsmore, in this county, and daughter of Hugh and Hester Burman, of Shottery, in this parish; she was born October the 28th, 1732, and died July the 31st, 1787." (Ref R.H.Burman Monograph 1895 and 'Shakespeare's Church' by J Harvey Bloom, 1902, Google Books.)

"Lucy Burman, who came into the whole of her father's estate, was a considerable heiress. She died in 1787, and was buried in the family vault at Stratford, a handsome monument being erected to her memory in the church. Unfortunately, the organ pipes have been erected in front of it, and it is not now to be seen. Her husband inherited her fortune, and at his death in 1816 left £4,000 for the purpose of re-building Stretton-on-Dunsmore Church, which work was not completed until 1837. Lucy Daniel was the last of her branch of the Burman family, which died out in the male line with the death of her father in 1761 (he was mayor in 1744)." (ref The Burman Chronicle 1940)

No issue (ref R.H.Burman).

She was bap 30 Aug 1704 at Lapworth, Warwickshire. Rebecca was dau of Isaac Green and Mary, surname unknown.

John appears to have benefited most from the Will of his father in 1743 in the inheritance of property at Kemp's Green, though this was entailed on his eldest son, also John. He was charged with an annuity of £20 for the elder son Richard, on condition that 'he does not give my second son John or his heirs any disturbance'. John left a Will 11 Nov 1767 in which he appointed his widow, Rebecca, sole executrix, and to her he left a house and garden in Tanworth, no doubt part of the property settled on him by his father at the time of his marriage, and where he and his wife first set up house. On the death of his widow this was to go to his youngest son, Richard. Other items were settled on each of the other children except John, who had already inherited from his grandfather, and William who was believed to be a ne'er do well who became a gamekeeper (ref the Burman Chronicle).

This Will has not yet been located.
