Marriage 15 Nov 1756 at Countesthorpe of William Heard to Catharine GILLAM; both of this parish; Banns; witnesses Josiah Johnson, Thomas Lord; Anglican (ref findmypast Leicestershire Banns and Marriages, image). Bap of Catherine Gillam 28 Jan 1738/39 at Countesthorpe, Leicestershire, dau of Thomas & Jane Gillam (ref fmp Leicestershire Baptisms image). Catherine's parents were Thomas Gillam (1712-1772) and Jane Meadows (1708-1776), and there are many generations of the family going back in Countesthorpe. These are documented in FamilySearch. Direct ancestors are Thomas Gillam (1673) & Elizabeth Brewin, Thomas Gillam (1648) & May Brewin, and Thomas Gillam (1613) and Mary Norton. William was mentioned in Will of his aunt Elizabeth Hurd in 1762 with bequest (see previous generation). William appears to have inherited the Frameworkknitter business at Great Wigston from his uncle and aunt (William and Elizabeth); William and Catharine definitely moved between 1762 and 1766 (see children) so he may have inherited the property and business on the widow Elizabeth's death. William was listed in the Poll Book of 1775 with Freehold at Hinkley, Wigston Magna (ref Ancestry). In 1795 and 1796 William took on 2 apprentices in Great Wigston as Frameworkknitters, William and John Clifford (ref fmp Apprentices records). Note - the actual licence dated 15 Sep 1784 in fmp does not mention her age and the implication may be that she was 21 or over. There are several possibilities for Frances DERBYSHIRE as they were a large family in the area. Another Frances Derbyshire married a John Smalley.
