When he re-entered a burning house at Meeniyan (Vic.) to obtain a photograph, Mr. William Henry Johnson, aged 73 years, was overcome, and his charred body was found later in the ruins. The fire broke out at 2 o'clock one morning when Mr. Johnson, his daughter-in-law (Mrs. W. Johnson), and her daughter, aged 13 months, were sleeping. Mrs. Johnson, whose husband was away from home, was awakened by a crash, and the house was then burning fiercely. Taking her baby with her, she helped Mr. Johnson to escape through a bedroom window into the yard. Mr. Johnson said that he was going back for a photograph and he re-entered the building. As he did not return Mrs. Johnson placed the baby on the ground and endeavoured to go after him, but she was driven back by the flames, and her hair, neck and hands were burned.
