"William ye son of Samuell and Anne Moberly was baptized October ye 24" [1708, Deddington] (ref Ancestry Oxfordshire England CofE Baptisms). Marr 4 Oct 1730 at Steeple Barton, Oxfordshire of William Mobily to Sarah BLEATMAN (ref findmypast index record). Other marriages in Deddington include William (Moberly or Mobile) on 29 Nov 1731 to Martha Buckingham, and 13 Jan 1733 to Hannah Deen. Hannah and Sarah both had several children over a similar period (ref OHFS). It is not possible to say who these other Williams were, but there were many Mobleys around at that time. . The reason for selecting the marriage to Sarah is the mention in the Will of William's father to his granddaughter Ann, daughter of William; she would have been about 20 at the time of his death. |

Samuel ye son of Samuel & Ann Moberly" [1715/16, Deddington] (ref Ancestry Oxfordshire England CofE Baptisms). There is a possibility that Samuel was married and widowed prior to the marriage with Mary, because the Marriage Bond record for 1737 names him as Widowed. However, this marriage has not been found. Marr (1) 10 Apr 1737 at Deddington of Samuel Moberly of Hempton to Mary FRENCH (ref OFHS). "April 10. Samuel Moberly of Hampton [sic] & Mary French with a License" [1737, Deddington] (ref Ancestry Oxfordshire England CofE Marriages). Burial of Mary Moberly 1737 at Deddington, wife of Samuel (ref OFHS). "Nov. 13. Mary ye wife of Samuel Moberly of Hampton [sic]. Rec. an Affidavt. yt [that] she was buried in woolen." [1737 Deddington] (ref Ancestry Oxfordshire England CofE Burials). "The Burying in Woollen Acts 1666-80 were Acts of the Parliament of England which required the dead, except plague victims and the destitute, to be buried in pure English woollen shrouds to the exclusion of any foreign textiles. It was a requirement that an affadavit be swon in front of a Justice of the Peace (usually by a relative of the deceased), confirming burial in wool, with the punishment of a £5 fee for noncompliance. Burial entries in parish registers were marked with the word "affidavit" or its equivalent to confirm that affidavit had been sworn; it would be marked "naked" for those too poor to afford the woollen shroud. The legislation was in force until 1814, but was generally ignored after 1770." (ref Wikipedia, Burial in Woollen Acts) Marr (2) 22 Sep 1741 at Deddington of Samuel Moberly of Hempton to Elizabeth NEVIL of Hempton (ref OFHS). "Sept 22. Samuel Moberly & Elizabeth Nevil both of Hampton [sic] with Banns" [1741, Deddington] (ref Ancestry Oxfordshire England CofE Marriages). In 1752, Samuel was Executor for his deceased father; see the Will in previous generation. There are several adult burials of Elizabeth Moberly at Deddington such as 8 Sep 1768 and 6 Dec 1770 but these could just as well be Samuel and Elizabeth's daughter or daughter-in-law or some other relative as the surname was quite common around the area. FROM WHOM FREDERICK SHADE IS DESCENDED. |
