Marriage 23 Jul 1754 at Newton Harcourt of William Ward to Mary OSWIN; they were married in the Chapel by Licence with consent of parents; witnesses John Ward, Tho Kenney (ref fmp BT Leicestershire Marriages image). In William's application for a Marriage Licence he claims that he is aged 22, bachelor, Fellmonger, resident in the Chapelry of Newton Harcourt in the parish of Wistow for the last 4 weeks; Mary is age 21, spinster, of the same place; if this is the correct person, his age would have been 25, and the fact of parents' consent in the marriage possibly means that she was under 21 (ref fmp image). She was born c1733 or later, place unknown. The only suitable baptisms found in fmp are in the Leicester area. (Fellmonger = dealer of hides or skins such as sheepskin.)

In 1762 William received a legacy from his father John Ward:
WILL OF JOHN WARD [signed 1 Aug 1761, buried 23 Dec 1761, proved 18 Dec 1762]

First All my Messuages Lands Tenements & Hereditaments whatsoever & wheresoever I Give & Devise unto my Son William Ward his Heirs & Assigns for ever. ...."

It appears that around the time that William received this legacy, he moved to Oadby. They are about 4 miles apart via Wigston.
